Newborn Favorites – Essentials For The First Weeks

First of all, congratulations! The newborn days are wonderful. Chaotic, foggy bliss but bliss nonetheless. Ok, time for the good stuff because no newborn mama has time to read an essay. One thing I wanted for baby number one was to not go overboard with baby gear! Do you think that happened? Of course not. Four years later and a seasoned mother of two, expecting my third (!) I have a few favorites. These few items significantly helped me during the first weeks and beyond.

1. Love to Dream Swaddle

I could kick myself for not having this swaddle for my first baby. This was pure sleep magic for baby number two. The design supports baby’s natural desire to have their arms up but also keeps them from startling themselves awake. It looks funny but it’s no joke!

2. Nursing Pillow

I have the Boppy and the My Breast Friend. At the beginning I didn’t even think I needed one at all. Why do I need a pillow to hold my baby? Yep, I was naive. I’ve had two c-sections and this pillow is my all-time favorite. You can strap it around you to avoid constant adjustment. For me, it kept baby high above my incision and was so great for positioning her to nurse.

3. Bamboo Bath Towel

Newborn babies are so teeny, the thought of a rough towel on their delicate skin makes me cringe. Bamboo towels are so beautifully soft!

4. White Noise Machine

The sounds of dogs, a toddler, general life – enough said.

5. Puj Bath

This folding sink insert was a game changer. I could stand and bathe baby without and crouching or bending. She was just as comfortable in her little foam space that cradles around her!

6. Snuggle Me

Newborns don’t like wide open spaces. Would you after spending 9 months in a cozy little nook? Baby nests make baby feel baby and secure like they felt in the womb and in my experience, they sleep for much longer.

There are so many baby products on the market right now and it can be so overwhelming when starting from scratch. Clutter makes me crazy and unused items make me feel guilty so I hope I can help just a little in getting you exactly what you need.
